Laketon Township does not regulate burning as there is State law to do so. Please call 911 if you see a burning emergency – don’t wait until the fire is over to report burning issues!
Open Burning is often a “hot topic” so here are some good reminders for everyone regarding some very important regulations from State of Michigan:
- Burning of leaves &/or grass is not permitted in Laketon Township, per State Law, as the township population is OVER 7500.
- State Law prohibits the burning of a number of materials, including but not limited to: construction materials, treated lumber, textiles, plastic, rubber and household garbage.
- A burn permit is required for open burning, defined as being on the ground without the benefit of any container, except when the ground is covered by snow.
- A burn permit is not required for recreational campfires in a container.
