Construction Update – Horton Park (1405 Glenwood Ave.)

We appreciate everyone’s patience and excitement as improvements continue to Horton Park.

At this time, the park will remain temporarily closed until the final phase of asphalt work can be completed. This includes not only the final layer of asphalt, but also parking lot striping and line painting, installation of barriers and safety features, and other finishing work throughout the park.  We are hopeful this work will be finished within the next couple of weeks, weather and contractor schedules permitting.

We understand the biggest concern for many residents is the completion of the boat launch. This portion of the project has experienced delays due to issues that had to be addressed during construction.  In the previous launch area, utility lines were running directly across the launch site. These lines had to be safely cut, and now be removed, and relocated before construction can continue.  In addition, dredging work is required to complete the launch properly. However, the State of Michigan currently restricts dredging activities during fish spawning season. Unfortunately, this means we must wait for state approval before that portion of the project can move forward.  Please know that Township staff and contractors are doing everything possible to complete the project as quickly and safely as we can while following all required state regulations and environmental guidelines.

We know many residents are eager to get their boats in the water and enjoy the park again. We appreciate your understanding, patience, and continued support as we work through these final steps to provide a launch and park facility for the community.

Additional updates will be shared as construction progresses.
